ARANDIS HOROKHOES

We caught up with Mrs. Ingrid Skinny , from the community to give us more information on the Arandis Horokhoes which was a traditional event well received by the community.

What is the actual story behind the Horokhoes event?

The event was meant to show the symbolism of Damara dresses which is respect, dignity and pride. Horokhoes is our traditional dress that was firstly worn by Damara/Nama women that went into womanhood and to cover their bodies respectfully for their husbands. The event was aimed at sharing various ideas, discuss cultural practices and sensitize women on the importance of the Damara dress, also aimed at engaging and encouraging young women to embrace and continue the legacy of our ancestors culturally.
