A Major Milestone for Road Safety in Namibia: Groundbreaking of the Arandis Emergency Response and Traffic Management Centre

On 12 November 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Arandis Emergency Response and Traffic Management Centre marked a significant step forward for road safety in Namibia. Originally inaugurated as a pilot project on 6 December 2021, this initiative, led by the Arandis Town Council and the National Road Safety Council with support from the Erongo Regional Council, aims to transform safety along the B2 highway with state-of-the-art technology. Construction by the awarded contractor, JN Smit Builders, is now set to commence and projected to complete by 2025/2026

In his address, Mr. Eugene Tendekule, Executive Secretary of the National Road Safety Council, emphasized the Centre’s advanced capabilities, including 24/7 real-time traffic surveillance, emergency response, and predictive safety measures. This first-of-its-kind facility promises safer roads, quicker emergency responses, and enhanced traffic management.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Honourable Governor, Neville Andre Itope, Hon. Benitha Imbamba, Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council and Arandis Constituency Councillor, celebrated this project as a testament to the Namibian Government’s commitment to road safety. Hon. Imbamba urged all road users to prioritize safety, especially during the festive season, as the Centre strives to reduce accidents and foster responsible driving.

Distinguished guests included Honourable Councillors, teachers and learners from Kolin Foundation Secondary School, Arandis Primary School & U.B. Dax Primary School, NAMPOL, National Road Safety representatives, and community members.

Together, let’s embrace a new era of road safety!
