OFFICE OF THE MAYOR LAUNCHES HOLIDAY SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE TO EMPOWER ARANDIS LEARNERS

In a commendable effort to support academic excellence and youth development, the Office of the Mayor has launched a Holiday School of Excellence aimed at assisting Grade 10, 11, and AS-level learners in Arandis. This initiative comes at a crucial time as learners prepare for mid-year assessments and national examinations and reflects a strong commitment to education as the foundation of community empowerment.

The holiday school, currently in full swing at Kolin Foundation Secondary School, is facilitated by a team of dedicated and experienced lecturers from Grand Tutorial College, with campuses based in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. The programme offers intensive academic support across key subjects, ensuring learners receive the guidance and reinforcement they need outside of regular classroom hours.

Oswaldo Hoeseb, one of the enthusiastic Learner Representative Council (LRC) members, shared his thoughts on the programme, stating:

“The learners are really pleased with the classes. The content is well-presented and easy to understand. It’s definitely helping us improve and build confidence in our studies.”

This impactful initiative is made possible through the generous support of Rössing Uranium Limited and MES Equipment, who have stepped in not only to support educational materials but also to ensure that learners are fed and cared for during the programme. Their contribution underlines the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing community development and youth upliftment.

The founders of Grand Tutorial College, a group of concerned parents and professionals passionate about quality education, were the driving force behind the concept. With overwhelming support and visible success already evident, they are willing to commit to making the Mayoral Holiday School of Excellence an annual initiative.

During a recent visit to the holiday classes, the honourable mayor, Barnabas Kambara expressed his pride and encouragement to the learners. “Education is the key to a brighter future. Grab opportunities like this with both hands,” he told the learners. He further urged them to take part in the upcoming Clean-Up Campaign, emphasizing that maintaining a clean and hygienic environment goes hand-in-hand with academic success.

The Holiday School of Excellence stands as a shining example of what collaboration, vision, and care for the youth can achieve. With continued commitment, Arandis is poised to cultivate not only top-performing learners but also socially responsible young leaders of tomorrow.
